As a Dragon Baby myself, I am super happy that 2024 is the Year of the Dragon! To celebrate, we have a sneak peak at Miss Cat Yronwode's Patreon (usually for subscribers only). And for Valentine's Day we share a recipe from Miss Bri's Love Magic Workshop, coming this Friday!

Like many of our clients, I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. And while Valentine's is a great time to think of heart-shaped cards and candies, it's a good time to consider our own beating hearts as well.

Please be careful with yours!

Many blessings,

Deacon Millett

World Folk Traditions With Miss Cat

To celebrate the year of the dragon, beginning February 10, Miss Cat shares the unique saga of Lucky Dragon Money from her Patreon page.

With the diaspora of Chinese people, the custom of giving Lunar Festival gifts marked with the year's Zodiac animal has spread around the world, especially since the year 2000.

In that auspicious year of the metal dragon, an unexpected multitude of metal dragon gifts first burst on the scene and made their way to popular online sales sites. It was the fashion to design the dragons so that their coils formed a cursive representation of the number 2000. Coins seemed like an obvious choice to make, and they sold very well. Such coins with images of dragons on them have an extensive history of production in Asia, due to their historical association with the old Dragon Money of China, Japan, and Korea.

We have now arrived at 2024. More and more Asian people are relocating, bringing their beloved cultural traditions to the West -- and this year dozen of nations are issuing lucky silver, gold, and copper coins and bullion displaying images of talismanic dragons in celebration of an event that only happens every 12 years, with high-tech beautifications such as colourization, metalization, gilding, and three-dimensional sculptural relief.

Miss Bri's Love Magic Workshop

Love magic -- spells, charms, incantations, and potions to seal love, make love, deepen love, compel love, break up lovers, and bless happy couples -- is some of the oldest magic around; it is global and found in every culture. Though the types of spells, ceremonies, rituals and philosophies behind love and romance magic may vary greatly from place to place and time to time, one thing is for sure: Love Magic is STILL the most requested form of magic.

Here is a recipe from my Love Magic Workshop on Friday, where we will get into the details about what it takes to make, keep, grow, restore, heal, and spice up our love and romantic relationships!

This bath is perfect before engaging in reconciliation work:

1 part Kosher or blessed salt
1 part white rose petals dried
1 part lavender
9 Balm of Gilead buds
A few drops of a heart healing ritual oil like Lucky Mojo's Return to Me or Blessed Almond oil

Combine all ingredients and follow directions for spiritual bathing which can be found here.

Join Hoodoo Psychic Miss Bri for more Love Magic at her workshop. But be quick! Deadline to register is Thursday, February 8th by 12 noon, central time.

February is heart month. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans, and yet 90 percent of heart attacks and strokes could be prevented. If we tackle the preventable risk factors, we can make a real difference in our likelihood of heart disease -- AND save some money on those healing candles!

These are the factors we cannot change:
  • Age: Unfortunately, the older we are, the higher the risk for heart disease.
  • Gender: Both genders suffer equally from heart disease, but more women die each year from heart disease than men. And heart disease is increasing among women, especially young women.
  • Ethnicity: Heart disease affects all ethnic groups, but African-Americans are more likely to have high blood pressure and are 30 percent more likely to die from the disease than other groups.
  • Family History: Our genetics can double or even triple our risk for heart disease, and where and how we were raised introduces additional risk factors such as living with smokers and diet choice.
It's important to understand these influences — but, with the exception of age, they’re actually less important than many of the factors we CAN change.

Here are the risk factors we CAN change:
  • High blood pressure: High blood pressure may be the largest risk factor for heart disease and complications like heart attack and stroke. It’s important to know our blood pressure and work with a doctor who can prescribe medications or lifestyle changes to help lower it.
  • Being overweight: Being overweight or obese also increases our risk for heart disease. Being honest and speaking up for ourselves at the doctor's office can get us access to drugs, nutrition counseling, and fitness programs.
  • Living a sedentary lifestyle: Our heart is a muscle that needs to be exercised, and as much as 35 percent of heart disease may be related to sitting too much and not getting enough exercise. Talking with a doctor and finding an exercise plan that’s appropriate can help lower our heart disease risk.
  • Drinking and smoking: Excessive drinking can lead to stroke, high blood pressure, and heart failure. It can directly damage the heart muscle and raise the risk for other heart issues. Smoking damages our veins and arteries, increasing the likelihood of heart attack and stroke. Smoking also increases the risk of other illnesses that put pressure on our heart.
  • Not managing other conditions: The number one complication associated with Type-2 diabetes and obesity is heart disease. If we work with a doctor to keep these conditions under control, we can lower our risk for heart disease.
The most important thing is to check blood pressure regularly and take charge of our health. We can affect a positive change in our lives. But it's up to us.
